The steel erection market is an area of expertise within the Industrial Group and their project portfolio continues to grow. This is also an area in which the Industrial team provides competitive self-perform capabilities. These ironworkers have the capabilities to self-perform steel erection, miscellaneous steel work which includes anything metal, and rigging of large pieces of equipment within a facility. Tennessee | 126,000 SF | Energy Management System | In-Progress

L. Keeley recently began work on a new project for a valued customer in Tennessee. They are moving their operations center and technical support facility to a new location. The operations center provides an energy management system for their energy generation facilities.

L. Keeley is fabricating and erecting the structural & miscellaneous steel for the systems operations center and technical support building. This first phase of the project will consist of erecting the systems operations center and the second phase will consist of erecting the technical support building, mechanical, and electrical buildings.

St. Peters, MO | New Distribution Facility | 2021

Earlier this year, the L. Keeley Industrial Group installed the steel for a new Amazon facility. This project was completed on-time and exceeded quality expectations. L. Keeley collaborated with the steel fabricator and the teams were able to flawlessly execute the initial plan.

St. Louis, MO | Relocation & Installation | September 2019

PSC Metals purchased an existing shredder located in Alton, IL to increase the capacity of their St. Louis facility. L. Keeley’s Industrial Team was approached for their ability to offer a turn-key solution and for our experience installing that exact same shredder in Alton, IL seven years prior. L. Keeley relocated the shredder to PSC’s St. Louis Facility. Foundations and machinery installation dates were staggered to maintain an efficient schedule fully utilizing our 30-plus manpower crew.

One challenge the team faced during construction was that the pipe pile received from the manufacturer did not meet design requirements. L. Keeley was able to fabricate a suitable collar around the manufacturer’s welds to meet the necessary strength requirements. L. Keeley’s ability to find and implement a solution saved the client several weeks that it would have taken to re-procure new pipe pile. L. Keeley self-performed 80% of the project including site civil, pile driving, concrete foundations, steel erection, millwright installation of equipment, flatwork, and carpentry work.

Alexis, IL | 4,560 SF| Two 98-Ton Compressors | December 2019

A trusted partner was in need of larger compressors to handle the demand for natural gas. L. Keeley was selected to help them achieve this by pouring the foundations, setting the compressors, and erecting a building around the newly set compressors, each weighing 98 tons. The customer stores their natural gas in rock beneath the ground, and in addition to distribution, the new compressors also provide storage, pumping the gas down into these natural underground pockets.

One major challenge of this project was the process of setting two 98-ton compressors from 60 feet away. In order to accomplish this, L. Keeley used two cranes (350tn and 300tn) to simultaneously pick up a compressor and place it onto its foundation.

Despite being on a tight schedule, L. Keeley had the compressors ready to accommodate the demand for natural gas on-time and within budget. Watch the video below to learn more.

Bloomfield, MO | 28,736 SF | Facility Expansion | June 2020

Nestle Purina announced the expansion of its Bloomfield factory in Southeast Missouri where Tidy Cats brand cat litter is made. Purina employs more than 3,500 people in Missouri and has had a longstanding presence in Bloomfield since 1976. The 500,000 SF factory in Bloomfield currently employs more than 340 people in the Southeast Missouri region. The expansion added a 110,000 SF processing and packaging facility that led to total job growth of approximately 30 positions.

Both the L. Keeley Civil and Industrial Groups were selected to complete this project. The Civil Group provided the materials, equipment, and labor to install utilities, foundations, concrete slabs, equipment bases, and site grading. The Industrial Group provided supervision, safety management, setting of structural steel, and project controls. L. Keeley worked closely with the Owner Representative to ensure a great partnership throughout the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
